Saint Helena - Empress

August 18 is the feast of Saint Helena, the mother of Constantine, the first Christian emperor. For today’s feast we are visiting the Church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli, on the Capitoline hill (where her relics are venerated), and the Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. The latter was constructed by Saint Helena on the grounds of her palace, to house the relics of the True Cross, which she had discovered during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
